A Simple Guide On How To Clean Leather Shoes
Shoes get dirty easily as soon as you step outside. Here are a few simple tricks to clean dirty leather shoes.
Before you start cleaning, check if your shoes are made of either a finished or unfinished leather. Finished leather is a material that has a layer of protection on it. This type of leather is easier to clean and
condition than unfinished or natural leather.
Steps:
- Soak the leather shoes in a tub of water and mix the water with detergent. Keep them for a few hours.
- Wash the shoes in clean water.
- Let the shoes dry in a dryer, or let them air dry.
Another way to clean the shoes is with a damp cloth.
Steps:
-
Take a damp cloth and gently rub it to the shoes with a mild soap.
-
Take another damp cloth and rinse the soap from the shoes.
-
Let the shoes air dry, and keep them out of direct sunlight to avoid damaging the leather.
Do not let your shoes get too wet while cleaning, as too much water would ruin the leather.
Stubborn scuffs? We’ve got you!
We all have toothpaste and a toothbrush, don’t we? So, here’s the trick. Take a very little amount of toothpaste on a toothbrush and gently remove the scuffs from the shoes. Take a soft cloth and wipe the cleaned area, and continue brushing until the scuffs vanish completely. Like the above tip, keep the shoes dry.
Shine your shoes
As per the color of your shoes, choose a similar polish. Apply the polish with a clean cloth, let the polish sit, and then you can use a shoe brush to buff the polished area. Repeat this process twice for both the shoes. If you’re looking for a glossier finish, use a slightly damp cloth to clean the shoes, and brush it five times in a circular pattern.
Practical care for leather shoes
-
These shoes aren’t meant for daily wear. Wearing them every day will reduce the life of the footwear.
-
Keep them in the open when you’re not wearing them, to keep the shoes moist and safe.
